Description | The sheet lists the length, breadth and depth of the ship the North of Europe and the assumptions about her tonnage and cost. The letter lists the cost of the weekly wages for each class of crew member and whether the wages are paid by the ship or are board wages. The crew members include, amongst others, the captain, the mates and second mates, the carpenters, the seamen, ship's boys, cook, stewards, firemen and engineers. The sheet also estimates the ship's expenses, exclusive of the engine room, and also calculates the coals per week. The sheet has been folded into a slim packet with a title, date and note on the reverse reading "I. K. B. from C Claxton who will see Capt Andrews before he sees I.K B again Friday Jany 13th 54". There is a tear across the middle of the sheet. |
