In the next 18 years she modernised the Puffin lists and brought great flair to their marketing, notably through the Puffin Clubs, tripling sales within five years. Formerly married to the cartoonist Ronald Searle, with whom she produced Q36 'Refugees' (1960). In 1989 Penguin Books published her compilation of 50 favourite extracts, 'I Like this Story' PS2000, a tribute to her 50 years in publishing. Her huge personal archive was acquired in 1997 by the Centre for the Children's Book. |
