Description | A letter written by Trixie (Beatrix Wyatt-Smith) from Osborne Hotel, Torquay, Devon, England, to Edith Mona Grant (née Sprigg) (1881-1961), informing her that she (and her husband, Stanley Wyatt-Smith) were 'still alive' after being repatriated from a Japanese internment camp in Manila, Philippines. Beatrix Amy Howard Wyatt-Smith (née Metford) (1890-1985) mentions how 'aweful the East is now & how depressing it was living under Japanese propaganda & completely cut off from the world'. Beatrix sends her love to Mabyn, who was Mona's youngest sister. Mona had previously lived in Burma (Myanmar). See the collection of photographs on the Historical Photographs of China web site, including a portrait of Beatrix Wyatt-Smith - in the Stanley Wyatt-Smith Collection (HPC ref: WS). |
