TitleClifton Suspension Bridge competition drawings by Isambard Kingdom Brunel
DescriptionFour pencil (and possibly pen and ink) drawings of proposed suspension bridges across four different points of the River Avon, submitted by Isambard Kingdom Brunel to the Committee of the Society of Merchant Venturers of Bristol in the first competition to choose a bridge. Each one is signed I.K. Brunel and dated Nov. 19th 1829. The scale drawings are numbered 1-4, each consisting of two figures: elevation and ground-plan, scale 1:600, sheet-size: 36 1/2 x 24 1/2 in., mounted on linen and rolled, case in dark green cloth, gold bordered and stamped: Clifton Bridge.

The 'long statement' which Brunel submitted with the plans and on which Isambard Brunel was able to draw for technical specifications in his biography of his father, does not seem to have survived.
