DescriptionDM162/10/12/folio 94. Letter to Sir Baldwin Walker relating to Floating batteries. The letter relates to consideration of progress of vessels, experience in propulsion, construction to resist shot and for light draft, effort to give unfavourable opinion to Admiralty, trial of vessel, confirmation of view that still slow with additional screw, unmanageable, large draft and insufficient strength, preference for different construction and batteries, practicability of increasing speed, strength, etc., without great alteration, etc. [See also Letter Book 10, p. 138] 30 April 1855.

DM162/10/12/folio 96. Letter to Sir Baldwin Walker relating to gun boats. Sending to Baldwin of detailed weight and displacement calculations, Sir Charles Wood's request for such declined due to desire alone to raise subject with Admiralty, etc., general principle submitted for consideration, Baldwin to read paper left with Wood, also previous letter to him on submission of plans, wish to know of mechanical difficulties, willingness to undertake project if considered good and experiments made, etc., possible modifications. [See also Letter Book 10, p. 229] 3 January 1856.

DM162/10/12/folio 100. Letter to Sir John Burgoyne relating to the floating gun. Burgoyne's assumption that something done in the matter, latter brought before Admiralty with no result, criticism for delay, negative principles, etc., meeting with Wood but no opinion or answer to application for discussion received, no reply from Palmerston, previous similar experiences with the Admiralty. [See also Letter Book 10, p. 237]. 21 January 1856.
