DescriptionCopies of outgoing correspondence by Isambard Kingdom Brunel relating to a variety of projects. Topics covered include the building of the Great Eastern Steamship, the building of hospitals in Scutari, Renkioi and Smyrna and other Crimean locations, the development of an octagonal gun as well as large guns and floating gun batteries. Some of the correspondence dates from after Brunel's death and may include correspondence with Brunel's eldest son, also called Isambard as well as memoranda and reports of Brunel's work, including work on various steamships, including the Great Britain and the Great Western, work on the railways and other inventions and projects as well as reports of the inquest held in Weymouth into the explosion of the funnels of the Great Eastern which resulted in the death of several stokers.
