Title
Letter from Isambard Kingdom Brunel to Thomas Guppy
Description
Brunel asks Guppy whether there is any new obstacle to their working together. He discusses his state of health: 'I am not the man I was...I question whether I should ever be able to work as I have done' and his business: 'I must by some arrangement get my business forwarded for it is in tremendous arrears'.
Written on paper headed 'Paddington, Great Western Railway London Terminus'.
A full transcript of this letter can be found in Adrian Vaughan, 'The Intemperate Engineer', (Ian Allen Publishing, 2010), p. 117. (Vaughan comments that this letter refers to Guppy's offer to work as Brunel's Assistant.)
