| Description | Brunel has travelled through Liverpool on his way to Dublin; he has been called upon suddenly to prepare contracts for rails to Reading. He has examined rails on the Bolton and the Dublin lines, and discusses his findings, estimating that 'we can do nothing under £6800 to £7000' and discusses manufacture of screw heads; this includes a very rough sketch of a screw.
He adds in a postscript: 'Mrs Brunel goes with me to [Bristol] next week and hopes Mrs Guppy will be there - will she?' and warns Guppy that the Wolverhampton Tunnel is not safe.
