| Description | 'A splendid storm is brewing and although I have no umbrella or shelter and must weather it out, one is curious to know beforehand whether it will be snow, hail or rail or all three - & thunder & lightening to boot - an active canvas is going on to do with no more or less than to condemn all my plans adopted in the GWR [Great Western Railway] and to dispense with the necessity of giving me any further trouble. I need hardly say that Liverpool is the gun whence all the shot principally comes... this is no joke but a serious attack. Our Directors certainly look on it as 'une affaire finie'. I am by no means disposed to treat it lightly, though a good attack always warms my blood and raises my spirits.'
