Description | Written from Avon Cottage, Clifton Wood and 4 Narrow Quay, Bristol. The letter explains that Browning's firm are doing work in London for W. Morgan Esq which is why he has written to Berkeley and reminds him that Browning has previously enquired about being given the contract for coating the bottom of the Great Eastern with Browning's composition. The letter mentions that Browning's solution has been successfully used by W. Morgan on the Austrian Lloyds and other steam ships. The letter also suggests that the Peterborough Steam Ship Company could also be approached for references for the efficacy of Browning's solution. The back page has a covering note from J. H. J. Berkeley to Isambard Kingdom Brunel explaining that Berkeley has promised Browning that he will pass the matter on to Brunel. The letter has been copied out as DM1306/11/1/5/folio 50-51 in Brunel's letter books of Great Eastern correspondence. |
