Description | Written from 12 Northumberland Terrace, Regents Park Road, London. The letter reminds Brunel that Pollard has previously written to him about a new method of propelling steamships, superceding both paddle wheel and screw propeller but that Pollard was not able to meet with Brunel to discuss the issue. The letter also sends Brunel the results of a trial that Pollard held the previous day of his model propeller and offers to meet with Brunel to discuss the matter further should he wish. The page opposite the signature has the details of the results of the trial, listing the revolutions of the blades or vertical propeller, the time and the distance and compares this to the revolutions, time and distance of a screw propeller. Underneath the signature and address is a fainter annotation, written upside down, directing the shape of the response to the letter. The letter has been copied out as DM1306/11/1/5/folio 74-75 in Brunel's volumes of Great Eastern correspondence. |
