| Description | Manuscript copy of an award relating to the dispute over the contract between the Great Ship Company and John Scott Russell for work on the SS Great Eastern. The award states that the work on the coal bunkers and on the lower supports of the sponson beams does form part of the contract, but that the work on the screw alley does not. A memorandum adds that although the screw alley is not in the contract, the arbitrators concur with Isambard Kingdom Brunel in thinking that it should be provided. This item was copied out into Brunel's letter books of Great Eastern correspondence as DM1306/11/1/6/folio 127-129. |
