The letter forwards a note from Sir Benjamin Hawes and requests permission to be present during the operations for the launching of the Leviathan (SS Great Eastern) to see the machinery employed. There is a note by Isambard Kingdom Brunel on the inside directing the reply to the letter. A fair copy of the reply also accompanies the letter. The reply is written from 18 Duke Street, Westminster and sends Colebrooke an order to visit the works at Millwall. |
