| Title | Letter from Isambard Kingdom Brunel to J. H. Yates, secretary of the Great Ship Company |
| Description | The letter reiterates Brunel's previous opinion that no-one will be able to effectively or correctly estimate the proportion of work that has been completed on the ship and questions the various measures that could be used as estimates and whether these measures confirm or dispute the statement of progress that has been submitted. The letter also explains the bits of work that Brunel considers essential to the completion of the ship including the work on the coal bunkers of the screw engines, the screw alley (a water-tight passage for the screw shaft through the after-compartment) and the carrying of the sponson beams and the order in which this work ought to be completed and also mentions another small bit of work that John Scott Russell is working on. A post-script explains that it is unlikely that the delivery of the masts will be delayed since several of the parts of the masts are already waiting on the Thames. |
