| Title | Letter from Isambard Kingdom Brunel to R. I. Campbell |
| Description | The letter asks Campbell to discuss the matter of diagonal decking with John Scott Russell when he sees him and briefly explains the problem that Brunel thinks might have arisen with the decking where a portion of the lower deck has been planked rather than laid with iron decking and which Brunel needs to be rectified. The letter also raises some other points about which Brunel is concerned, including the passages for the blow-off pipes which he does not think should be considered as part of the work on the engines. Brunel also questions the supports of the sponson beams, which considers as much an essential part of the ship as the deck itself. The letter also apologises that Russell may have ascribed a malicious motive to Brunel having sent copies of his first letter to Russell also to the Directors of the Company and wishes that Russell would communicate his worries and concerns to Brunel. |
