| Title | Letter from J. Bennett on behalf of Isambard Kingdom Brunel, to J. H. Yates, secretary of the Great Ship Company |
| Description | The letter explains that, although the Directors requested additional details relating to several of the tenders received for the finishing of the ship, it was decided that four of the tenders were already sufficiently detailed that it was not necessary to enquire for further details but that Bennett made additional enquiries of Mr Kelk for more details about his tender. The letter explains that Kelk's tender did not include several of the items included in the original contract and suggests where some of the other tenders might not include details included in the original contract. The letter also raises other questions of the comparative value of the tenders that have been received. The letter also explains that Bennett is in the process of drawing up the "Estimate of the Quantities and prices of Articles Necessary to Complete the ship for sea in addition to the above" that the directors had requested but has not yet finished it. |
