| Title | Letter from J. Bennett to the Directors of the Great Ship Company |
| Description | The letter answers a suggestion made by the Directors that a different system of rigging be used for the Great Eastern and explains that the rigging was a subject of great consideration for Brunel and Captain Harrison who took advice from many experts before choosing the present system. The letter also points out the recent decision by the Peninsular and Oriental Company to put out the tenders for the rigging in a certain way and explains that Brunel's procedure follows that of the P&O company but promises to send the Directors a schedule giving the total weights of different parts of the rigging as they wish, although Bennett suggests that this schedule not be issued to prospective tenderers. |
