TitleLetter from J. Bennett to R. P. Brereton
DescriptionThe letter sends Brereton a letter from the soliciors referring to a conversation that they held with Brereton and apologises for misleading Brereton and explains that he has learned from Henry Marc Brunel that Isambard Kingdom Brunel refused to report on the readiness of the ship and the level to which John Scott Russell had fulfilled his contract unless he was given direct orders to do so by the Directors of the Great Ship Company. Bennett supposes that the Directors are unlikely to ask Mr Brereton to make such a report, although they may ask him to collect data to allow the engineer to make such a report. The letter supposes that there will be time enough to make a report on the condition of the ship once she arrives in Weymouth. The letter also reports that Brunel is a little bit better. A postscript asks Brereton to inform Mr Campbell and the Directors that he has written to them about some Swindon workmen.
