TitleLetter from J. Bennett to Captain Harrison of the Great Eastern Steam Ship
DescriptionThe letter hopes that Bennett can congratulate Harrison at arriving safely in Weymouth with the Great Eastern and explains that Brunel is not more ill than when Harrison saw him and is in fact a little better. Bennett expresses what he feels is certain to be Brunel's pleasure at hearing from Harrison a full account of the voyage from Deptford to Weymouth and includes in the letter a list of questions which are likely to be asked by Brunel as well as any other that Harrison may expect Brunel to ask. The questions that Bennett asks include details of the number of engine revolutions per minute at steady operation, the speed of the ship and consumption of fuel at the same state of the engine, how well the super-heating apparatus worked and how the steering apparatus worked and how well the crew, particularly the engineers, worked together.
