The letter expresses Watt & Co's surprise at receiving Brunel's letter about appointing all the engineers except Mr Cross since it was completely different to what Watt & Co had understood to be the case. The letter expresses Watt & Co's dissatisfaction at how Brunel has proceeded and exerts their right to nominate three engineers to take charge of the screw engines.
