| Description | Written from the Great Eastern Steam Ship Engineer's Office. The letter sends Brunel a drawing of the work to be done on the iron masts to carry the shrouds as well as a sketch of the relative position of the capstan and tiller which has been placed four feet further back than intended, although the Captain does not anticipate there being a problem with the arrangement. The letter also describes the amount of strain that broke the lanyard rope and the iron wire shroud and describes the setup for the testing and the thickness and composition of the ropes in question. Jacomb also mentions that he has been given a sketch of a new kind of screw propeller that Captain Harrison wants Brunel to see. |
