TitleLetter from James Watt & Co to J. H. Yates
DescriptionWritten from 18 London Street, City of London. The letter sets out what Watt & Co are prepared to do in the way of completing the work in order to receive the two thousand pounds from the Great Ship company in cash rather than shares and rejects some of the conditions set out in Yates' previous letter since they believe that the sea-readiness of the ship depends on too many matters that are out of their control and that the auxiliary boilers will probably not be ready by that date which will affect her sea worthiness. The letter also highlights the fact that various parts of the work that Watt & Co have undertaken will not be ready by the specified date but informs Yates that they are undertaking the installation of the super-heating apparatus for the boiler and that the sum they are charging includes a payment to the patent holder but cannot protect the Great Ship company against any claims by other patent holders than Mr Partridge.
