TitleGreat Eastern: Memorandum of matters to be attended to
DescriptionThe memorandum covers various points that still need to be attended to with the Great Eastern, some of which have already been raised with Russell. The list includes the timber flooring over the iron decks, the gratings for the skylights, access to the officers' accommodation, the engineer's accommodation, arrangements for workshops and stores, cooking arrangements for the officers, crew and stokers. There is also a list of specific ironwork that still needs to be attended to, including cleaning out the the space between the double skin and making holes in the webbing between the skins, installing ventilating holes and manhole doors, painting the iron work, installing watertight doors and doors to the cargo and coal ports, and installing fireproof iron doors. The list also calls for various openings to be cut to allow coal to be moved into various spaces. The memorandum also raises points to be fixed relating to the masts and to the auxiliary engines.
