| Title | Letter from Septimus Jones to Isambard Kingdom Brunel |
| Description | Written from Zubee C.E. The letter describes Jones' proposals for a method of steering large steam vessels through crowded rivers by means of two connected dials with hands indicating both the actual current position of the rudder and the intended position the rudder is to be moved to so that the steersman must make both the hands on his dial line up and the captain can direct, by changing the hand of his dial, the ship's course. The letter also mentions that Jones has another plan where a pilot could himself alter the ship's course without the assistance of a steersman. |
