TitleLetter from W. Froude to Isambard Kingdom Brunel
DescriptionWritten from Dartington. The letter explains Froude's conclusions relating to experiments on the forces acting on waves; namely that if one is on a raft, a plumb line will hang at right angles to the wave surface and not perpendicularly to the Earth's surface and explains the experiment that Froude used to reach his conclusion. The letter also extrapolates the results of the experiments from a small raft in a basin of water to a large ship in the ocean. There is a sketch on Folio 79 illustrating the experiment.
