TitleLetter from Major General P. Faddy of the Royal Artillery to Isambard Kingdom Brunel
DescriptionWritten from Mont le Grand near Exeter. The letter offers Faddy's suggestion as to how to launch the Eastern Steam Navigation Company's ship which is to use 60 of General Blanchard's Cylindrical Pontoons under the ship, covered with baulks of hardwood which will, when high tide comes, lift the ship off the launching cradles sufficiently to allow her to move down the launching ways by means of Brunel's existing hydraulic presses. Faddy suggests that Brunel can acquire the pontoons from the Woolwich or Chatham dockyards.
