TitleLetter from George W. Lenox to Isambard Kingdom Brunel
DescriptionWritten from the Newbridge Works, Pontypridd, Glamorganshire. The letter explains that Lenox has had the results of the proving test on one of the bolts and is sadly disappointed at the possibility of being able to get a large chain to withstand the calculated amount of strain. Lenox asks if he should send up some more pieces to test with slightly different constructions to see if they will withstand the strain better. Lenox explains that he has halted construction until he hears from Brunel and gives details of the highest breaking strain of the very best iron.
