| Title | Letter from Isambard Kingdom Brunel to John Yates, secretary of the Eastern Steam Navigation Company |
| Description | Written from Millwall, London. The letter confirms that two of the hydraulic presses have been proved and the largest press was partially proved but that, after consideration, Brunel thinks that their current machinery is not strong enough to move the ship. Brunel expresses his fears of the risks of using the current machinery to move the ship as well as his possible solutions to the problems. The letter also comments that a delay of several months and an additional expense before finally launching the ship could completely ruin the company. |
