TitleLetter from W. Froude to Isambard Kingdom Brunel
DescriptionWritten from the Athenaeum, London. The letter tries to explain to Brunel that Froude was reluctant to make himself at home at Millwall not because he thought that Brunel might grudge him the permission to visit the shipyard but because he was aware that Brunel was trying to reduce the number of people visiting Millwall but that Froude is now aware that his fears were groundless and he is happy to visit Brunel to talk about the experiments relating to friction and will visit the shipyard to set up his apparatus. Froude also mentions that he hopes to bring his friend Mr England to the shipyard with him to help with the experiment and hopes that Brunel will allow England access to the shipyard. Froude also comments on the potential experiments using a pendulum to test the friction of the ship's motion at each cradle.
