| Title | Letter from Julius Jeffreys, F.R.S. to Isambard Kingdom Brunel |
| Description | Written from Coombe Bury, Kingston Hill, Surrey. The letter apologises that Jeffreys does not know Brunel as well as he knew Brunel's father and for adding to the suggestions that must have inundated Brunel recently and offers Jeffrey's suggestions as to how Brunel could overcome the problems with the launching of the ship by pumping water into the hull to add ballast that might push the slip to slide further down the launching ways. The letter offers a suggestion for completing Jeffrey's idea without adding to the strain on the ship and apologises for troubling Brunel with an idea that he probably has already had. A postscript explains that Jeffreys has not yet had a chance to visit the Great Eastern. |
