| Title | Letter from 'A Shipowner' to Isambard Kingdom Brunel |
| Description | Written from Sunderland. The letter commiserates over the failure to launch the Great Eastern, regrets that the writer did not see Brunel when he visited London to offer his opinion of the launching and comments that the writer himself had a similar difficulty with a launching more than forty years previously when the ship being launched twisted slightly and went off-parallel. The letter describes the writer's failed launch, offers his criticisms for what Brunel did wrong with the launch of the Great Eastern and suggests a solution to Brunel's problem. There are sketches on Folio 264 illustrating some of the writer's ideas. |
