| Description | Written from High Road, Lee, Kent. The letter explained that Mortimer witnessed the attempts to move the bow of Brunel's Leviathan level with the stern and was in a position to witness the cable chains snapping and the floor of the staging platform giving way. Mortimer explains what he witnessed and explains the progression of events that led to the snapping of chain cable and suggests how he believes the situation might be improved or avoided in future. Mortimer explains his points with diagrams and sketches on Folios 256 and 257. |
