TitleLetter from Isambard Kingdom Brunel to John Yates, secretary of the Eastern Steam Navigation Company
DescriptionWritten from 18 Duke Street, Westminster, London. The letter complains at the fact that there has recently been much disruption caused at the Millwall shipyard, during the critical, final days of construction, by the comings and goings of people not involved in the Eastern Steam Navigation Company and reminds Yates of the arrangements that have been made with regard to the usage of the shipyard. Brunel also requests that Yates let him know immediately if his assumption that the Eastern Steam Navigation Company have sole possession and usage of the yard is incorrect. Brunel expresses his certainty that the ship will be ready to launch the following week and requests Yates make arrangements for a small police force to keep the shipyard clear, especially if the Directors intend to invite visitors to witness the launch.
