TitleLetter from Philip Hedger of the Southampton Dock Co to Isambard Kingdom Brunel
DescriptionWritten from the Southampton Dock Co, Dock House, Southampton. The letter remarks that Hedger has recently been acquainted with a new plan for fitting venetian shutters to cabins for side ventilation which he considers a great improvement to Robinson's and other patented designs so that he feels he has to bring it to Brunel's attention for possible inclusion in the Great Eastern. The letter offers to show anyone Brunel sends a model that has been fitted up in Southampton and mentions that he is anxiously looking forward to seeing the results of Brunel's 'great work'' and hopes that Brunel will be successful in getting the ship afloat. A postscript explains that Hedger has had the collapsing boat for the Great Eastern painted inside and thinks that it is in good order.
