TitleLetter from Isambard Kingdom Brunel to Captain Harrison
DescriptionWritten from 18 Duke Street, Westminster, London. The letter confirms that Brunel has written to the Admiralty to request the loan of 600 fathoms of 2" chain and two pairs of large blocks and reminds Harrison that Brunel is leaving the all the arrangements for completing the floating work in Harrison's hands and that this includes obtaining any barges as well as chains and moorings necessary. Brunel takes on the responsibility for seeing to the preparation of the heavy blocks and crabs and securing them to the barges and the machinery and appliances that will be fixed on shore. Brunel expresses his anxiety that Harrison will be able to find good, dependable men to take charge of the barge and floating apparatus. Brunel also suggests that he thinks it would be worth getting the bow and stern barges by the end of that week so they can fitted up in advance of the launch.
