TitleExtract from the Minute of a Meeting of the Court of Directors Held This day
DescriptionWritten from Gresham Street, London. The minute recounts a meeting of the Court of Directors of the Eastern Steam Navigation Company, recording a discussion of the arrangements for leasing the shipyard the company are using, the reading of several of Brunel's letters relating to the estimates and statements that he prepared of the remaining costs. The minutes also record several resolutions passed during the meeting to raise a loan for the additional sum of money needed to finish and launch the ship, which may be guaranteed by using the ship as collateral and through the personal guarantee of the Directors. Additional resolutions passed list the members of a committee to negotiate the loan and the powers given to various officers, including the company's solicitor and the members of the loan committee. The letter also records a resolution expressing the need to ensure that the ship is launched early in October and instructing Brunel to take such steps as to ensure the launch of the vessel at the beginning of October 1857.
