The letter explains that Jones' suggestions for a system for steering the Great Eastern is very similar to the plan that Brunel has already determined upon but that Brunel does not believe either he or Jones has the right to claim the first invention of the system. The letter also briefly describes how Brunel intends to manage the steering of the Great Eastern.
