| Description | Written from 18 Duke Street, Westminster, London. The letter mentions to Brunel that a flaw has been detected inside one of the anchors that is being forged for the Eastern Steam Navigation Company and describes the possible method of fixing the flaw, although other solutions will have to wait until the smith who forged the anchor returns. The letter also mentions some other, very slight flaws in other pieces and also mentions that the forge Leslie was visiting was disappointed to not receive the iron from which they were manufacture some samples of chain. Leslie reports on tests of the breaking strain of some iron chain and promises that the anchors will be finished and delivered to the Eastern Steam Navigation Company very soon. There are sketches on Folio 125 indicating the structure of the anchor and the location of the flaw. |
