| Title | Letter from C. Piazzi Smyth to Isambard Kingdom Brunel |
| Description | Written from the Royal Observatory, Edinburgh. Smyth explains that he has received Brunel's letter and since the box with his nautical instruments is particularly large and awkward to unpack, he will send it directly to Paris. The letter also updates Brunel on the progress made by Mr Cooke who is manufacturing a sample of one of Smyth's nautical observation instruments and informs Brunel that Smyth received a grant from the Royal Society in Edinburgh towards his work on the precession stand and the artificial horizon instrument. |
