Description | Written from the Hydrographic Office of the Admiralty, London. The letter explains that Evans has sent Brunel three pamphlets on the subject of compass deviation that are supplied to the Navy and recommends the reading and adoption of the Practical Rules that are used in the British Navy. The letter also praises one of the pamphlets for having a clear, practical explanation of the disturbance caused by the iron of a ship and recommends Brunel read it. The letter also offers Brunel whatever assistance Evans can provide in the matter of compasses. |
