TitleLetter from Isambard Kingdom Brunel to John Scott Russell
DescriptionWritten from 18 Duke Street, Westminster, London. The letter reports back to Russell on the discussion at the last board meeting of his letter regarding the amount of work remaining and the payments that he believes he needs in order to finish the work. Brunel explains the scheme that he favours to decide on the monthly payment and how this should be split up and calculated. Brunel sets out his calculations and his assumptions for the amount of iron remaining to be fixed and asks for any details of iron still to be ordered. Brunel warns Russell that it is by no means certain that the directors will agree to make payments that are almost equal to the entire cost of Russell's payment before the ship has been launched or tested for seaworthiness. There are several pencil notes in the margin of Folio 402 with references to other pages of the volume.
