Title
Letter from James Braidwood to Isambard Kingdom Brunel
Description
Written from 68 Watling Street. The letter thanks Brunel for his interest in Braidwood's floating fire engine, explains why he intends to reduce the jet of the engine and describes how well the engine worked during its test. The letter also includes some details of the fire engine and its performance including the average time taken to run the nautical mile, the average steam pressure and number of revolutions, the average number of revolutions of the propeller pump and the nautical miles per hour and discusses the conditions during the trial. Braidwood also mentions his plans to run some more tests with the engine and invites Brunel to visit and observe the test. The letter finishes with a description of the dimensions of the floating fire engine.
