Description | Written from the Eastern Steam Navigation Company, London. The letter confirms that Jacomb has sent Brunel a statement of the progress made during October and explains that the rate of work on the inner skin of the ship remains the same as the previous month but that Jacomb cannot account for the lack of progress on the outer skin. Jacomb also outlines the progress that has been made in laying some of the decks, the work on the boilers, the paddle engines and screws. Jacomb confirms that he has altered the experimental screw as Brunel wishes and that it will soon be ready for a test and also describes the progress made with the experiment for blowing off steam through wire gauze and the progress with the deck model of the ship and reports back to Brunel about the drawings in which he is interested. |
