The letter describes, in more detail, what decisions Smyth is making with regard to the altitude instruments that he is having made for Brunel and his reasoning behind these decisions. Smyth explains that he has commissioned Milne & Son to make the velocity and direction anemometers requested in Brunel's previous letter and explains the decisions that he has made regarding the designs of the instruments and the estimated cost of the instruments.
