Title | Letter from Isambard Kingdom Brunel to John Scott Russell |
Description | Written from 18 Duke Street, Westminster, London. The letter informs Russell that Brunel has requested William Jacomb to contact Russell's draftsmen relating to the gaining the information needed for the calculation of weights in the Eastern Steam Navigation Company's ship and mentions some of the points that need to be settled in order to complete the calculations. Brunel refers back to the original terms of the contract which specified the exact quantities of iron to be included in the ship and connects the quantities of iron used with the payments for the work. Brunel reminds Russell of points that he has made previously regarding the need to ensure that the iron plates are not over-heavy and also requests Russell make calculations of the position of the centre of gravity for various parts of the ship.
