TitlePrivate letter from Isambard Kingdom Brunel to John Scott Russell
DescriptionWritten from Haverfordwest. The letter comments on Brunel's need for Russell to understand his concern over the rate of Russell's progress on the building of the Eastern Steam Navigation Company's ship and argues that although materials were ordered on a regular basis, the rate of fixing the materials did not match pace with the rate of ordering. The letter mentions that Russell has been paid almost three quarters of the total amount included in the contract which Brunel considers is more than enough to cover the work associated with the material already ordered. Brunel discusses the rate of work that needs to be achieved in the future, the payment for the rate of work and the amount of money that Brunel is willing to certify as payment for the next month's work.
