Title | Letter from C. Claxton to Isambard Kingdom Brunel |
Description | Written from Fareham. The letter comments on Claxton's family circumstances and then gives a report of some boats that he visited which are much stronger than he expected; these are possibly the boats designed by the Reverend E.L. Berthon which Brunel proposes to use as small passenger launches or life boats. The letter also describes a small boat that Berthon has designed for possible use by the Admiralty as a mortar boat and describes its size, construction and usage. There is a small sketch on Folio 189 demonstrating the hull shape of the mortar boat. |
