Title | Letter from William Jacomb to Isambard Kingdom Brunel |
Description | Written from Eastern Steam Navigation, London. The letter wonders if Brunel would like to have the experimental screw tried as it is currently fitted together and then have it altered if necessary after some experiments or if he wishes some alterations that he suggested to be made and then the screw fitted and tried out and describes the best position in the shipyard in which to try the screw. The letter also describes the enquiries that Jacomb has made with regard to the use of hardwood as bearings and details some of the people that he has contacted. He also reports on a successful use of lignum vitae on the screw shaft of the ship Himalaya which has apparently reduced the amount of wearing of the screw shaft. |
