| Title | Letter from Isambard Kingdom Brunel to H.W. Blake |
| Description | Written from Watcombe. The letter comments on Brunel's opinion of the hazardousness of the double rod connecting rod and reprimands Blake for moving away from the terms of the contract and the correspondence between Blake and Brunel and making unilateral decisions. The letter also reminds Blake of the seriousness of the enterprise upon which they are engaged and of the stakes that Blake is playing for. Brunel also expresses the mechanical importance of the connecting rod, particularly if it goes wrong. Brunel also mentions that he is having to answer some important questions about the method of launching the ship but that Russell has finally come around to supporting Brunel's planned launching method. There are several pencil annotations, including a cross-reference on Folio 162 and pencil marks in the text and margin of Folio 163. |
