Title
Letter from Isambard Kingdom Brunel to John Scott Russell
Description
Written from 18 Duke Street, Westminster, London. The letter informs Russell that Brunel has recorded for his own satisfaction the key points from their discussion the previous day. The letter reminds Russell that they discussed the means of launching the Eastern Steam Navigation Company's ship but that Brunel needs to know the weight of the ship when launched and the rise and fall of the tide so that he can make the launch calculations and therefore requests that Russell set in hand a more accurate calculation of the weight of the ship that has previously been made and details how this might be accomplished. Brunel explains why the accurate weighing of the ship is also important for ensuring that all the iron calculated in the original contract has been ordered before the company authorises payment for extra iron. The letter also requests details of weights of the engines and comments that Brunel has not received copies of the all the drawings that he requested.
